Shared Hosting Page
A shared web hosting package is a service where numerous websites reside on one web server. Each Site is placed in its own section on the server to keep it separated from all the other sites. This is the most popular type of hosting as many people share the overall cost of a server maintenance.
Shared hosting must include system administration because it is shared by many users and also tends to use a web-based control panel such as cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk, InterWorx, H-Sphere and many more. However some of the bigger shared web hosting providers develop their own custom control panels. This is a benefit to users who are happy to stay away from the system administration side of things, but can be an annoyance to power users and big businesses who wish to control this sort of thing themselves. When it comes to shared web hosting, it is the provider that is usually responsible for managing and controlling the servers. They will usually be in control of many things including security updates, installing server software and technical support. The majority of shared web hosting market is driven through pay per click (PPC) advertising or Affiliate programs.
Shared web hosting can be accomplished in two ways, these are name-based and IP-based
Name Based
Name based (or as it is sometimes known, shared IP hosting) is done by the virtual hosts serving multiple host names. This is done on a single machine with a single IP address. When a web browser requests a resource from a web server, it includes the host name as part of the request, which will then allow the server to determine which web site to show the user.
IP Based
If shared web hosting is IP based, this means that each virtual host has a different IP address. The web server software uses the IP address the client connects to in order to determine which web site to show the user.
